Among the many travesties perpetrated by our totally impersonal and uncaring government is this one: the closing of a facility that is vital to the well-being of individuals who, through no fault of their own, cannot be maintained in any other environment.
Where have all the hamsters gone? You see Syrian hamsters in movies and TV commercials, on greeting cards and calendars. Everywhere but pet stores. Where are they? What's happening? Where have all the hamsters gone? Let's begin with recent events.

Anonymous has launched denial of service attacks against the websites of the Department of Justice and Universal Music in response to today's takedown of Megaupload.com. Both sites are still down, and more attacks are being mounted
While we still do not know if it will ever be possible to have Remote Viewer's column restored, she nevertheless wanted all of her friends on Newsvine to know how much she appreciates them, and she emailed me this message requesting that I put it up in an article.

At some point yesterday, Remote Viewer decided to exit the vine permanently, and she took down her column. I had no clue until I went to her column to look up something, and… …Oops! It seems that the page is no longer here… I kinda panicked.

In this version Makana tells the FULL STORY as well as sings the full version of the song, "We Are The Many."
This is mind-blowing in a "WTF" sort of way.
If he were just another naked man running through the woods this wouldn't be much of a story. But this naked man has a quest he's been working on for more than 20 years. This is the story of Chaosmi the Infinite...
Once again, Al Jazeera posts an opinion piece that is succinct and to the point.
On November 7, 2011, Tyler seeded an article: “College Football's Logic: why Joe Paterno and Penn State would shield a child molester.” I had barely begun to follow this story. Even had I not wanted to, the media had picked it up and they were not about to let i …

Penn State has never been an “outlaw program”. It's what every school aspires to become. Think about that. Every school aspires to be the kind of place where football is so valuable that children can become collateral damage.
Comparing the Occupy movement to the political climate of the Vietnam era, I recall runaway inflation, but that really didn't peak until approximately 1984, at which time, where I lived, it had reached better than 20%.

On October 29th, it snowed. Not since 1979 has the Washington, DC area seen snow in October. Naturally, with the snow came colder-than-usual temperatures. And, naturally, when one is emotionally attached to a particular movement, like the Occupy DC movement, on …

This is more than a little disturbing. It is scary. I tend to avoid fish, not because I don't like it, but because I simply can't deal with the bones. So I stick to shrimp, lobster, clams, scallops...
Taking the Metro to DC makes it very easy. Take the bus to the train, and take the train to Federal Triangle, which is a couple of blocks from Freedom Plaza, where the various factions were congregating. And there were a number of factions: the “Occupy&rd …

This is so sad! I remember first reading about Heidi on Newsvine - what a cute little critter! Too bad they don't have longer lifespans! R.I.P. Heidi!

This opinion piece should jar people awake and perhaps make some politicians do some serious introspection. That is, of course, assuming any of them have IQ's high enough even to know the meaning of a word of more than three letters and one syllable.
This is very important! I hope everyone in the area will keep their eyes open and call 911 if they spot either of these vehicles!
I can’t tell you when it began in earnest. We knew that thunderstorms were predicted for today. We were to have done our weekly supermarket run this morning, but it was raining as we made the decision to postpone it. Raining. Not pouring, no t …

I really have a problem with the kind of knee-jerk reaction exhibited by Booker High's principal. Adults are supposed to know better! Having seen a few of Elizondo's road trip pieces on AlJazeera, I know he is doing a real service with this road trip.
I almost published this to "Home and Garden," but thought better of it. :-) I sincerely hope that if they cannot find the owner of this cash, this man be allowed to keep it. Maybe it's drug money or something along those lines. Ill-gotten gains belong in the han …
This is a topic that has both saddened and angered me ever since 9/11. It seems that, despite the violence that people endure in one form or another, every day, it somehow became taboo to show photos and videos of the victims who either fell or jumped from the World Trade C …
After listening to many "talking heads" assess the hurricane (Irene) as having less impact than anticipated, I simply cannot resist this photo essay- I honestly do not recall any recent storms (not counting Katrina) that did as much damage as Irene did, and over such a huge area. …

Bitey, thank you for your friendship, I always enjoy your comments and I'm so happy you are doing well after the surgery! Yea!!
Thank you for your friend's invite and anti-malware recommendation. I went to that site and when I clicked to download it, several other products not malwarebytes were also being "advertised" with download options. I stuck to only malwarebytes' download and then receive a message saying internet explorer blocked its download for computer security reasons.
ROTFL: I just saw your avatar! We're fated to be friends:) My avatar is a Kazakh earth pig (as in groundhog - LOL). He lived in the Kazakh desert beside an ancient cemetery on the track (path?) to a town called Kulsary. The desert nomads cursed him constantly because he kept digging under the foundations of the monuments, but I was quite fond of him, since he always appeared topside when we stopped to eat lunch. (Yes, we shared:)

No, the cat's name is not Fufu. He's Loki.
A few years ago, I met my wife while working in China. When we came back to the States, we were decorating my mother's house for Christmas and using something called "toole". It is a white net style material. My mother and I knew what it's called, but my wife didn't. She asked and I responded that it's called "fufu", since we always joked that it was a little "fufuey". Because we were placing it around the base of my fish's bowl, that became the fish's name. Since then, it has become one of my online usernames.

You're my only friend :) Thanks for friending me!
I have a Love bird, that I call "Jack"..his real name is Jackass...since he is such a slob...Funny, in that we stop calling our "pets" lovey names and say it like it is...He still chirps, as I change his mess....thinking that I LIKE him and will accept the fact that he is such a p-i-g.
Hi bitemore,
I just wrote an article. I think it's pretty good and I'm trying to get in posted onto Newsvine. I figured I'd send it to my friends first in hopes it could get voted on. Please stop by and read it when you get the chance.

Your friend request is most welcome. I hope we will share and profit the best out each other's thoughts and knowledge and enhance our concept of friendship in good and bad topics' in agreements and disagreements till the vine do us part. And to those who can find a common ground to agree with us I dedicate this sextet; and I offer it to you as a token of my appreciation for your friendship. It has no title; you may give it one.
This soil here was readied to grow vine.,
You wish to aid with seeds to sow, Fine!,
But keep the spirit and don't toe the line;,

But, a terrain made vacant for all to opine.,
Best take your weed to a different shrine.,
Bitemore, thank you for the friend request. Just like steve from providence, you are the first person to to do so for me. Looking forward to seeing you on the vine!

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Authorities removed the body of a Clearwater grandmother from a storage unit Thursday afternoon. Investigators say the family had stored her body there for more than a decade.
Kentucky's governor said Friday there will be an immediate review of ways to restore an aging traffic bridge in the western part of the state after a five-story-high cargo boat carrying space rocket parts for NASA and the Air Force slammed into it, leaving a 300-foot-wide gap in the structure.
