Shortly before my mother married my stepfather in 1957, they bought our farm. By the time they were married, the farm was ready for all of us to move into. Not long after we moved in, we acquired two terrier puppies.

I think it was around 1959 when we got our first horse. From the time I could first form words, I wanted only one thing: a horse. Nothing else mattered. If it had nothing to do with horses, I had nothing to do with it.

Maybe claiming that the boss is working you to death has some merit. This one is worth heeding.
The year was roughly 1958 or '59. We'd lived on the farm since 1957; starting slowly because we were real greenhorns. We had eleven acres, most of it wooded. The house was huge, sitting on a hill overlooking Long Lake and with an unobstructed view of Mt. Rainier.

A Viner, Katrix, asked me why a rooster crows all the time. My response was: "All the time? Actually, they don't crow all the time. They do crow at daybreak... and they do crow if they're trying to get the attention of an attractive hen (but even then, not all the time).

This has to be seen to be believed. You cannot see the surface on which they sit: ladybugs. Gazillions of them!
She saved a life, and then she died.
A question that came up recently is whether or not the super-rich are happy, or does their wealth actually tend to make them unhappy? A lot of the clamor for justice from the public, because of the unearned bonuses being handed out to greedy CEOs while taxpayers foot the bill, s …

Your friend request is most welcome. I hope we will share and profit the best out each other's thoughts and knowledge and enhance our concept of friendship in good and bad topics' in agreements and disagreements till the vine do us part. And to those who can find a common ground to agree with us I dedicate this sextet; and I offer it to you as a token of my appreciation for your friendship. It has no title; you may give it one.
This soil here was readied to grow vine.,

thanks for the invite bitemore, I 'inherited' a pet rat when I was in the service.....someone shipped out and left her with me...her name was Fonda (as in Jane, I believe)...they don't have a very long life cycle, so it wasn't a very long pet/owner relationship...my cats were fascinated though...
glad to be your friend, enjoy your sense of humor and common sense...I have made it my mission to 'collect' others with common sense :)

I was born in the Year of the Rat, and just that fact makes me go eeeuuuuwwuu! However, I'm happy to befriend you, even though your icon is a rat! LOL

bitemore....more than once you have had me laughing my a$$ off and then when I read your bio I couldn't believe you are 65 years old! It's nice to see a sense of humor on the vine. Sometimes things get too serious, as they should, but a good laugh helps lighten things up. Thanks

bitemore, I read on a post that you once had a pet rat, I think that that is an interesting pet. We learn from our pets, we learn about ourselves and I think we learn about human nature. On the vine we struggle so with some people because I believe that they have never peered into the eyes of a pet or any animal other than a human. There is no better mirror than the eyes of a pet, it is in those eyes that we find humility. I like your posts.

Javajim, now THIS I find hilarious: "a bunch of raving, slobbering maniacs hunched over their keyboards ..." I almost wish someone would write a screenplay based around this... "Attack of the Zombie Spell-Mavens!"
:-)

re: spelling snobs, #164.3 I'm glad I could get a laugh out of ya, bitemore! Maybe I take some of these comments too seriously, I picture in my mind a bunch of raving, slobbering maniacs hunched over their keyboards venting their pent-up anger at the world through the anonymous world of cyberspace! By the way, don't think I'm a gay basher-two of the best friends I've ever had were gay! Well, one still is-the other died of AIDS.
