Remote Viewer has Left the Vine

As RV just told me, she simply cannot deal with the "Swan Song" thing... she wants everyone to know she is very thankful to everyone for having been so sweet to her while she was on the Vine!

When I found out, I went into shock - cried, couldn't think... I dunno... Newsvine, at least to me, is wayyy more than just a "social web site." For more than three years, it has been a large part of my life...

Sigh.

RV says thank you... as she leans back in her recliner and turns another page on the book she is reading... actually, that is one of the things she missed out on so much: reading books. She is now making the time to read books, and that is a good thing!

I have mixed feelings about the "swan song" articles - I have a lot of friends on the vine, and while I don't interact with most on a daily basis, if anyone decided to leave, I would want to know. The Vine isn't one person, or ten, or a thousand. It is the sum-total of everyone, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the saintly. To spend time on here means to form attachments. No one is really invisible here, even if they think they are. If someone is leaving, and writes a "farewell," to me that means they understand that some of us form attachments and appreciate the heads-up. Others think the "farewells" are simply ego trips. Whatever they are, I still think it is better to know when someone is leaving rather than to wonder or even make wildly inaccurate guesses.

Last night, when I found out that RV had pulled down her column, I actually went into a state of mourning. I sneaked off to the bedroom and sat there and cried... her column was special to me. Never mind that she's sitting only four feet from me now, trying to wrestle a bit of life into my netbook... her column was a special extension of her, and I am going to miss it as much as will those who never met her.

That is what I will do, as well, IF I ever choose to leave, which I don't foresee. I'm an avowed Newsvine addict... but I figure my column has enough of value that it should remain for posterity.

And I do get what you meant about the farewell missives and then - oops! No one goes anywhere... That can be tiresome after awhile.

Oops! I'm sorry if you got the wrong impression... I mean, Bubble's demise was about as severe as I would want. RV is fine, just trying to decompress and add some real leisure time to her daily routine, without feeling she has to read or write anything that she doesn't feel like reading or writing. I can stay away from the vine for days without feeling too much guilt... but then I can return, refreshed and ready to jump into the fray once again. I will always hold out hope that RV will change her mind someday and jump back into it again, but I fear it may be a vain hope. I hope I am wrong this time!

Thank you, CrowMeris. I know RV will miss you, along with all of her friends here. Losing Bubble so suddenly, at the same time as family emergencies demanded so much of her, was just too much... I understand why she felt she had to lighten her burdens, but, well... I wish she'd kept her column and her options open... Anyway, I really appreciate your stopping by.

Yes, we BOTH know it. And, yes, her path has been bumpy. I know you are already aware of some of it (regarding her Ex and his health issues), but there is much more. I know she really does need to shed some responsibilities, at least for awhile, and I really do hope that when things simmer down, she'll re-join the Vine and pick up where she left off.

Thank you, Ann. I am too-well aware of how dear she is. To anyone who knows her, she is a genuine angel. How could I forget how she kept MY presence alive on the Vine when I was so sick? She kept it all together then... and now, I guess, she needs to cut loose a few things so she can keep it together now. I can still hold out hope that she will return to the Vine someday... they don't charge us for hoping. Yet!

Interesting... but I would hope that IF she can get it restored, she would leave the page as it was... she had some interesting articles that I wish could be there forever...

I think an "On Vacation" (One-click) mode would be a great idea! Maybe the techies could make it happen if we asked them to...

That's what I'd do... I'm not a huge advocate of the bridge-burning technique. Even when a long-time Viner is banned, their columns are left in place. But an "On Vacation" mode might be useful, too... it would suspend comments, but leave everything else intact.

Yes, she is doing that. And I do keep her informed on Vine doin's - and we are both hoping her column can be restored. Yes, many Viners miss her. Heck - I LIVE with her and I miss her! Sounds crazy, but it's true.

We both thank you for that. "Blubbie" (my nickname for her) was very special. She loved humans, and would jump up and down when you approached, begging for attention. She was, indeed, a remarkable hamster.

Yes, Dowsey dear, that pretty much says it all. I am passing along every comment here, and I think she is already more than a little surprised to find that people care enough to say so. And, yes, it is a terrible loss to all of us, both RV's leaving the Vine, and the loss of Blubbie.

Sometimes, I think that if a shrink tried to analyze us, he'd need a shrink afterwards... but RV's presence on the Vine was, to me, a marvel in that her talents could finally be seen and appreciated by more than just me. The Vine has a lot of very special people, more, I think, than any other "social" site... and all of these special folks, in their great wisdom, gravitated to RV's column, and for a good reason. She is a gifted writer, very, very gifted... and willingly shared her talents with no fanfare whatsoever.

Sigh... she certainly thinks of you as special, too. And I agree!

She has asked me to contact Tyler to see if her column can be restored. She hasn't agreed to more than that: find out if, technically, it can be done. Then she will have to decide if she wants it done or not. It won't mean she'll return to writing or seeding, at least not until she has taken a breather, but let us hope...

Well, while I do hope Tyler says "yes," it may be too much to hope that RV will actually return any time soon. It would be nice to have her column come back, though, just for the content that was in it.

So, cross your fingers...

Oh, Joanna, you are so very RIGHT about this! She can't write anything that I don't want to read... she is skilled beyond what you see every day! Your list is also one I agree with... I love reading what every one of them writes, and also get wayyy behind in it. Ordinary Life gets in the way of some of the greatest pleasures: like reading good writing. I'm passing along your sentiments, and hope she will try to get her column restored. You are right about Google cache, too. I tried it. Pfffft!
