After learning that a reporter was present at the meeting, which was held in the auditorium of the Fairfax County Government Center, the Justice lawyers briefly interrupted the gathering to say everything was “off the record.” The Washington Post considered the gathering to be a public meeting and continued to report on it as such.
The lawyers told the families that they should feel confident that the transition ahead would be open to public scrutiny.

I just finished seeding this article when Remote Viewer sent me the link to this Washington Post article. The salient fact here is that the DoJ clearly did NOT want media attention, and that excellent reporter didn't let that stand in the way of his attendance at, and reporting of, this meeting. Yes, Remote Viewer was also present at this meeting.
I find it both disgusting and frightening that an agency of OUR government is trying to avoid public scrutiny in this manner, and every single one of us should be concerned! This crosses party lines - this affects each and every one of us, and we need to try to remain on top of this issue (as well as others) in an effort to keep our government honest and acting in OUR best interests, not its own.

“The simple fact is, with the economics what they are, we can’t operate a system like we had and build a community-based system like the lawsuit wants.”
Once again it comes down to finances over people. We need a new world view.

Many of the government agencies have found ways around doing their duties and pocketing the money. This set of articles is a long read and I would understand if you do not have the time. However if you want to find out just how an agency that is provided federal dollars miss uses the funds and destroys families I invite you to read:

As soon as I have a few minutes free, I will read that. What you've been through is unspeakable... and sounds so very familiar. Hang in there... if nothing else, you have lots of company. {{{{{T1Truth}}}}}

Well, biteySis, I've sure been accused many times in the past for being too aggressive and too conformational at people who simply are the wrenches in the works in the world of mental health care, and I have to admit now is one of those very same times. Unabashedly so as well.
Probably a good thing L'il Bro wasn't at this meeting, both you and RV would most probably have been sitting on L'il Bro's chest to keep him shut him up!
When I see or hear just one lawyer who represents any facet of our government act in, as a first response to our government's people, that being us, with true openness and honesty instead of immediately backpedaling with platitudes of deflection, hyperbole and just plain cover their asses, I'll then be able to sit across a table from any one of them with decorum as my own first response.
Personally, I would love to see that entire meeting aired on prime time, every night. For a week, straight. Absolutely deplorable the positions so many people take, from the government, the DoJ, Hazell (what a piece of work that guy is!) not one is willing to just step up to the line instead of pointing fingers at someone else in the chain of fools they're all part of.
End of rant. For now!
Unfortunately, their actions are nothing new, in Virginia, or anywhere else in this grand country of ours. Personally, DoJ and the people there driving this mess need to be strapped down to wheelchairs with duck tape on their mouths and hands and arms and legs strapped down, then told they can't do anything for themselves without someone else next to them doing it for them, from eating to bathroom to personal hygiene to the simple motions of getting dressed, for a month. And the people next to them need to be their own family members for that month. Every day and every night for that month. Then watch how fast things change.
Priorities. Societal, government, economic. If the state, any state, can float money for some egotists next favorite arena at their whim and will, then there is no reason under this sun the same monies can't be found with the very same will for the kind of adequate care necessary for our very same society's sons and daughters and mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers.
Just my pissed off opinion!
GREAT work posting this article up, Big Sis! Kudos to you and RV to keep this issue in the eyes and minds and hearts of as many folks as possible!

Oh, I totally agree! They have NO CLUE what they are talking about, and should defer to those who do!

Oh, yes, EXCELLENT example of how the government lackeys manage to find the cash for their pet projects - while throwing the innocent citizens under the bus. I love your idea about strapping them to wheelchairs... perhaps if they had to live the lives of those they disdain, you might see changes...

I daresay they don't WANT a clue... On some level, deeply buried, there must be a conscience in these sacks of protoplasm, and they are terrified of what it might be like to live with themselves if they admit how much misery they cause!

Bitey, I'm so grateful to you for keeping everyone informed while I continue to be MIA. I attended that "informal briefing" and thoroughly enjoyed the discomfiture of the DoJ lawyers. Prior to the meeting, rumor had it that they intended to cancel if they got word of press planning to be there. The credibility of this rumor is bolstered not only by their actions on learning that press had in fact infiltrated, but also by the complete absence of the event from the Fairfax County Government calendar. Clearly these guys are very proud of their actions.
Throughout this ongoing side show, the DoJ and the McDonnell administration have deflected onto each other the onus for the plan to close four out of five Training Centers. Tayloe and Zisser did their best to dance around this matter when questioned. but Tayloe was finally backed into a corner by one of our NVTC parents. After asking in several ways who had required the closings and how Virginia's "Plan" related to the settlement agreement, and getting several evasive responses, he asked point blank, "If Virginia did not close the Training Centers, would the DoJ consider it a violation of the agreement?" Tayloe (looking as if his backside were being chewed by red ants): "No." Very interesting, and good ammunition for us.

Yep, RV, I'd sure call that some red ant chewing! LOL!
Interesting too! If the DoJ is saying not closing any, they then take the posit no violation accordingly, doesn't that throw said agreement out the legal window?
Not to mention the veracity, and legal standing, of the agreement in the first place, speaking to intent, and motive? Of which party to it? Or even both?
Which speaks to, what? Duplicity? Collusion? Conspiracy? (not the end-of-the-world-types), but one of simply nefarious actions? And on who's, specifically, part and party?
Quite possibly some ammunition I'd say?
BTW, dear RV! I'd send you a Valentine's Day card and ask you to be my Valentine, but I don't have your addy! My bad!

Hi, Augur Well! And a happy Valentine's Day to you!
The DoJ claims to have primarily wanted more services in community settings for those who want them - and indeed such services have always been woefully underfunded in Virginia, with waiting lists in the thousands. The plan presented by Virginia (which the DoJ says is not actually part of the settlement, though the McDonnell administration claims it is) is to close the Training Centers and shift the funding to community settings. Oh, what a tangled web they weave.

Oh, how true! Thanks for stopping by, RV, and adding to this thread (and the other one). I love it when political hacks are exposed for all the world to see. And loathe. Loathing them is just about all the satisfaction most of us will ever have, because they don't seem to have much of a learning curve.
